Our Promise

We pledge to always put the community first. That means being leaders in environmental, social and economic sustainability.

01

Soil Health and Carbon Sequestration

At Specialty Crop, we enhance soil health and capture carbon in our fig orchards. By incorporating compost and biochar before planting, we sequester up to 3 tons of carbon per acre. We also recycle biomass from old orchards to capture additional carbon, promoting a healthier, more resilient environment.

02

Sustainable Water Management

We choose orchard locations with reliable, sustainable water sources and use advanced moisture monitoring and efficient irrigation. This approach improves water use by up to 30% and reduces water demand by half compared to other crops, supporting long-term sustainability in California.

03

Best Management Practices

Our expert team implements best practices to maximize efficiency and minimize risk. We base nutrient and crop protection activities on real-time data, apply crop protection only as needed, and use alternative methods like pheromone disruption to reduce insecticide use.

04

Renewable Energy

We invest in on-farm solar facilities to lower electricity costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Despite the initial investment, solar energy reduces utility cost volatility and decreases our carbon footprint.

05

Biodiversity

We prioritize replacing less efficient crops with figs rather than converting non-agricultural land to farmland. By developing high-productivity orchards, we minimize the need for land conversion and support biodiversity.
